Also called: demolding

Different desserts need different methods. Cakes are usually cooled in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turned out while still warm so they do not stick. Gelatin desserts, panna cotta and molded ice creams are dipped in warm water for a few seconds to loosen the edges, then turned onto a plate.

Good preparation makes unmolding easier: greasing and flouring pans, lining them with parchment or plastic wrap, or using silicone molds. A thin knife run around the edge helps release cheesecakes and tarts from their rings.
