Flavored syrup
A sweet syrup infused with fruit, spice, or other flavors, used to moisten cakes and flavor drinks and desserts.

- Baking ingredients and additives
A flavored syrup is a sugar syrup infused or made with a flavor such as fruit juice, berries, vanilla, spices, citrus peel, or herbs. It is used to moisten cake layers, sweeten drinks, glaze pastries, or pour over pancakes and ice cream.
Extension guidance notes that juices from berries, cherries, apples, and grapes all make good syrups. The juice or flavoring is simmered with sugar until it thickens slightly, then strained and cooled.
Infused syrups made with herbs or flowers are best kept in the refrigerator and used within a few weeks, or frozen, because they are not necessarily safe at room temperature. Tested canning recipes exist for some fruit syrups, but home cooks should follow them exactly.
