  • India

Also called: laddoo

Laddus come in many forms. Besan laddu is made from chickpea flour roasted slowly in ghee, then mixed with sugar and cardamom. Boondi laddu is made from tiny fried pearls of batter soaked in syrup and pressed together. Other versions use semolina, coconut, sesame or dates and nuts.

The warm mixture is shaped by hand into firm balls while it can still hold together. Laddus are offered at temples and shared at weddings, births and festivals such as Diwali.
