Also called: Pizzelle

Pizzelle are made from a simple batter of eggs, sugar, flour and butter or oil, flavored with anise, vanilla or lemon. Spoonfuls are pressed between the hot plates of a special iron, which imprints a snowflake or floral pattern on both sides. They bake in less than a minute.

Fresh from the iron they are soft and can be rolled into cones or shaped over a cup to make edible bowls, then they crisp as they cool. Pizzelle come from the Abruzzo region of central Italy and are traditional at Christmas, Easter and weddings. They are related to Norwegian krumkake and Belgian waffles.
