Waffle iron
A hinged cooking appliance with two patterned, grid-shaped plates that press and cook batter into crisp waffles.

- Equipment, utensils and bakeware
American-style waffle irons make thinner waffles with shallow pockets, while Belgian-style irons have deep pockets and make thick, airy waffles. Electric irons heat evenly and often signal when they are ready; stovetop irons are turned by hand to cook both sides.
Preheat the iron fully and grease it lightly before the first waffle. Avoid lifting the lid too early: a waffle is usually ready when the steam slows and it releases easily.
