Pandoro means golden bread. It is made from a rich yeast dough with plenty of butter and egg yolks, which give the crumb its yellow color. The dough rises slowly in several stages and bakes in a tall mold shaped like an eight-pointed star.
Unlike panettone, it contains no candied fruit or raisins. It is usually sold with a packet of powdered sugar that is shaken over the cake before serving. Sliced horizontally, it forms star-shaped layers that can be stacked with cream to look like a Christmas tree.
