Germknödel
A large, fluffy Austrian yeast dumpling filled with plum jam and served with melted butter or vanilla sauce and poppy seeds.

- Chocolate, sugar and confectionery
Germknödel is made from a soft, slightly sweet yeast dough wrapped around a spoonful of powidl, a thick spiced plum butter. After rising, the dumplings are steamed or simmered until light and puffed. They are served hot, topped with melted butter and a mixture of ground poppy seeds and powdered sugar, or with warm vanilla custard sauce.
The dumpling is a classic in Austria and southern Germany, popular as a dessert or as a filling main meal, especially at ski huts and inns in winter.
