Apple crisp
A baked dessert of sliced, spiced apples covered with a crunchy topping of oats, flour, brown sugar and butter, served warm.

- Cakes, cookies, pastries and baked goods
Sliced apples are tossed with sugar, cinnamon, a little lemon juice and a spoonful of flour or cornstarch to thicken the juices. The topping is rubbed together until clumpy and scattered on top. The crisp bakes, usually at about 350 to 375°F (175 to 190°C), until the topping is golden and the fruit bubbles at the edges.
In the US, a crisp usually has oats in the topping while a crumble may not; in Britain, crumble is used for both. Mixing tart and sweet apples gives a deeper flavor. Apple crisp is often served with vanilla ice cream.
