Vanilla ice cream
Ice cream flavored with vanilla extract or vanilla bean seeds, the most popular ice cream flavor and the base for sundaes, floats and affogato.

- Frozen desserts and sweet beverages
Vanilla ice cream is made either as a custard base with egg yolks, which is richer and pale yellow, or as an eggless Philadelphia-style base. Steeping a split vanilla bean in the warm cream gives the black specks of vanilla bean ice cream; extract is stirred in after the base cools so its aroma isn't cooked off.
French vanilla usually means the custard version made with egg yolks, not a different kind of vanilla.
