About the drive

The Pine Barrens Byway is a set of three routes, northern, central and southern, inside the Pinelands National Reserve. It runs from Batsto Village and Tuckerton in the north to Dennisville and Port Elizabeth near the Maurice River and Delaware Bay.

The northern loop starts at Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest, follows the Mullica River country to Tuckerton Seaport, and has a spur to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. The central and southern routes head back into the pine forest past old furnace and glassworks sites and along the Great Egg Harbor River.

The roads are a mix of county routes and state highways. At Green Bank you can choose a long or a short northern loop, and the southern route also has a longer and a shorter option, so the drive can be sized to the time you have.
