Oat crumble
A crumbly topping or base made from rolled oats, flour, sugar and butter, often with cinnamon, baked over fruit or pressed into bars.

The butter is rubbed or stirred into the dry ingredients until the mixture forms clumps of different sizes. Oats add a chewy, toasty texture and a nutty flavor that plain streusel lacks. Brown sugar gives extra caramel flavor, and nuts or a little honey or maple syrup are common additions.
Oat crumble tops apple crisps and fruit crumbles, crowns muffins and coffee cakes, and makes the base and topping for fruit bars. Chilling the mixture before using it helps the clumps hold together, and it is baked until deep golden and crisp.
