Marble cake
A cake with a swirled, marbled look, made by marbling a plain vanilla batter with a chocolate batter before baking.

- Germany
Marble cake is especially popular in Germany, where it is called Marmorkuchen and is often baked in a ring or bundt pan. Usually one batter is made and divided, with cocoa powder or melted chocolate stirred into one portion, so both parts bake at the same rate.
The batters are spooned or layered into the pan and swirled with a knife or skewer just a few times. Swirling too much blends the colors into a muddy brown instead of distinct streaks. Pound cake and butter cake batters are the most common bases.
