Chocolate cake
A cake flavored with cocoa powder, melted chocolate or both, from a light layer cake to a dense, fudgy single layer.

- Cakes, cookies, pastries and baked goods
Also called: cake flavored with chocolate
Many of the moistest chocolate cakes use oil and a hot liquid such as coffee or water, which blooms the cocoa and deepens the flavor. Butter-based chocolate cakes are richer with a tighter crumb. Flourless chocolate cakes rely on eggs and chocolate alone.
Chocolate cake is usually paired with chocolate buttercream or ganache, and baked at about 350°F (175°C).
