A leaf tip is a metal decorating tip whose V-shaped opening gives piped icing leaves their pointed tips. A university 4-H cake decorating manual lists the leaf tips as numbers 65, 67, 68, 70, 73, 349, 352 and 366, and notes that with any leaf tip you can make plain, ruffled or stand-up leaves. Leaf tips can also be used to make flowers and borders.

To pipe a plain leaf, squeeze to form a base, then pull the tip straight up and away as you relax pressure, leaving a pointed end. For a ruffled leaf, move the tip back and forth as you bring the leaf to a point.

Leaves are usually piped in green icing beside flowers, tucked under a flower, or joined into a border. Plain or ruffled leaves joined together can make a border on their own.
