Halo-halo means mix-mix in Tagalog, and that is how it is eaten. A tall glass is filled with sweetened beans, coconut strips, jackfruit, palm fruit, colorful jellies and sometimes sweet corn or tapioca pearls, then piled with shaved ice and drenched with evaporated milk.
It is crowned with ube halaya, a sweet purple yam jam, a slice of leche flan and a scoop of ice cream. Every shop and family has its own combination, and it is a beloved dessert in the hot summer months.
