Also called: gummi candy, gummies, jelly candy

Gummy candy is made by cooking sugar and glucose syrup, adding a gelling agent such as gelatin, pectin or starch, and flavoring and coloring the mix. The hot liquid is poured into molds, traditionally made in trays of cornstarch, and left to set and dry before the candies are released and often coated with a thin layer of oil or sour sugar.

Gummy bears were made in Germany in the 1920s, and gummies now come in countless shapes, from worms to fruit slices. Gelatin gives a springy, elastic chew, while pectin gives a softer, shorter bite and makes vegetarian versions possible. Homemade gummies can be made with fruit juice and silicone molds.
