Caramel apple
An apple on a stick dipped in soft caramel, sometimes rolled in nuts or drizzled with chocolate.

Tart, firm apples such as Granny Smith balance the sweet caramel. Apples should be washed and dried well, since the natural wax and any moisture stop caramel from sticking. Soft caramel for dipping is cooked to about 235 to 245°F (113 to 118°C).
Candy apples are a different treat, coated in a hard, clear red sugar shell cooked to the hard-crack stage.
