Baking dish
An oven-safe dish, usually glass or ceramic, with fairly deep sides, used for cobblers, crisps, bread puddings, bar desserts and other baked dishes.

- Equipment, utensils and bakeware
Also called: casserole dish
Common sizes are 9 by 13 inches and 8 or 9 inches square. Glass and ceramic heat more slowly than metal but hold heat longer, so desserts keep cooking after they come out of the oven. Many bakers lower the oven by about 25°F (15°C) when swapping glass for a metal pan.
Baking dishes are attractive enough to serve from, which suits spoonable desserts like cobbler, fruit crisp and bread pudding. Avoid moving a hot glass or ceramic dish onto a wet or cold surface, or adding cold liquid to it, since sudden temperature changes can crack it.
