Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stir in the brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Boil, stirring, for 2 minutes.
  2. Carefully stir in the cream and salt, return to a boil, then remove from the heat and cool for 10 minutes.
  3. Whisk in the confectioners' sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour over the cake while the icing is warm; it sets as it cools.
