  • Cakes, cookies, pastries and baked goods

Palatschinken are popular in Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia and much of the Balkans. The thin batter of flour, eggs and milk is cooked in a lightly greased pan and swirled to coat it evenly. Unlike many crêpes, the batter often rests for a short time before cooking.

The pancakes are spread with apricot jam, plum butter, sweet farmer's cheese, nut filling or chocolate, then rolled or folded. They may be dusted with powdered sugar or baked in a dish with a custard topping.
