Mozartkugel
A round Austrian chocolate with a center of pistachio marzipan wrapped in nougat and coated in dark chocolate, named after Mozart.

Also called: Rudolf Baumann - Inventor of the Salzburg Mozartkugel
The confection was created by a Salzburg confectioner in 1890, a century after the composer's death. A ball of green pistachio marzipan is covered with a layer of hazelnut nougat, set on a stick and dipped in dark chocolate. The stick hole is then sealed with a dab of chocolate.
Mozartkugeln are sold throughout Austria and Germany, usually wrapped in foil printed with the composer's portrait. Making them at home takes patience but only simple tools: marzipan, gianduja or nougat and good chocolate for dipping.
