About the drive
The Stevens Pass Greenway follows US 2 from Monroe, near Puget Sound, up the Skykomish River valley and over the Cascades at Stevens Pass. It crosses two national forests, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie and the Okanogan-Wenatchee, before dropping into the pine forest and fruit orchards of the Wenatchee River valley.
On the way up there are waterfalls, river views and trails, including Wallace Falls State Park. Stevens Pass is home to a ski resort that runs chairlifts and mountain-bike trails in summer. On the east side, the byway passes Bavarian-style Leavenworth and ends at Peshastin; many people continue to Wenatchee.
The highway is normally open all year, but snow can close the pass for short periods in winter. Summer and early autumn are the comfortable seasons for hiking along the route.
