About the drive

The Chinook Scenic Byway follows the glacier-fed White River from Enumclaw, crosses Chinook Pass on the edge of Mount Rainier National Park, and drops to the Naches valley. FHWA describes big views of Mount Rainier, dense forest, rocky ridges, river canyons and basalt flows on the east side.

The historic log Chinook Entrance Arch spans the road at the national park boundary.

Chinook Pass closes for the season around mid- to late November and typically reopens in late May, so this is a summer and early fall drive.
