About the drive

The Florida Keys Scenic Highway is US 1 from Key Largo to Key West. Florida's scenic highways program calls it the state's only All-American Road: 110 miles across 43 islands, with ocean on both sides for much of the way.

Watch the water and the sky: the Keys are home to manatees, Key deer, ospreys and sea turtles, and much of the route runs past coral reef and mangroves. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park near the top, Bahia Honda State Park and the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key make good stops.

Allow about four hours for the drive itself, more with beach time. Key deer cross the road on Big Pine Key, so slow down there.
