Cakes & Frostings 1×2″
Cake Serving & Portion Calculator
Find out how many slices a round, square or sheet cake gives, or which cake (or combination of tiers) feeds your guest list, with wedding, party and generous slice sizes and a cutting guide.
How to use it
- Choose whether you want servings for a cake, or a cake for a number of guests.
- Pick the shape, size and height, and the slice size you'll cut.
- Use the cutting guide for neat, even slices.
How it works
Round and square cakes use Wilton's wedding (1 × 2 in) and party (1½ × 2 in) serving charts for 4-inch-tall cakes, the bakery standard. Sheet cakes are cut in a grid. For a guest count, it searches single cakes, sheets and 2- and 3-tier combinations and lists the closest fits.
Assumptions and limits
- Servings assume slices 4 inches tall; tall cakes serve proportionally more and single layers fewer.
- Plan extra if cake is the only dessert.
Tips
- Cut a 2-inch ring around the outside, slice it, then repeat inward: the Wilton method keeps slices even.
- Chill a cake before cutting and wipe the knife between cuts.
- For big events, pair a display cake with sheet cakes cut in the kitchen.
