Vanilla & Extracts 4 oz
Vanilla Extract Bottle Yield Calculator
Ready to bottle? See how many 2, 4 or 8 oz bottles your batch fills after the beans keep their share, with a bean in each bottle if you like, plus what's left over.
How to use it
- Enter the spirit in your batch and the beans in it.
- Choose the bottle size and whether each bottle gets a bean.
- Strain, fill to the shoulder and label.
How it works
Soaked beans hold on to about 1 mL of extract per gram, so a batch yields a little less than the spirit you poured. Bottles are filled to the shoulder (about 95%), less the space a bean takes up.
Assumptions and limits
- Bean retention varies; squeezing the beans gets some back.
- Bottle sizes are nominal capacities.
Tips
- Amber or cobalt bottles protect extract from light.
- A funnel lined with a coffee filter gives clear extract.
- Dry spent beans for vanilla sugar.
