Yield

The amount a recipe makes, given as a number of pieces, servings, pans or a total weight, such as 24 cupcakes or one 9-inch cake.

Yield: Rows of identical frosted cupcakes on a cooling rack
  • Measurement, dietary and professional terminology

Also called: servings

Yield helps bakers choose a recipe and plan how much to make. It depends on portion size, so the same batter can yield 24 standard cupcakes or many more minis. Using a cookie scoop or weighing portions keeps the yield close to what the recipe promises.

Yield is also the starting point for scaling. To make more or fewer, divide the number you need by the recipe's yield and multiply every ingredient by that figure.
