Vanilla pudding
A smooth, creamy stovetop pudding made from milk, sugar, cornstarch and often egg yolks, flavored with vanilla.

- Fillings, creams, frostings and sauces
The milk, sugar and cornstarch are heated, egg yolks are tempered in, and the mixture is cooked until it bubbles for about a minute so the starch thickens fully. Vanilla and butter are stirred in off the heat.
Press plastic wrap onto the surface to stop a skin forming. It is served on its own and layered into banana pudding, trifles and cream pies.
