Salted caramel
Caramel finished with a noticeable amount of salt, which balances the sweetness and deepens the toasty, buttery flavor.

- Fillings, creams, frostings and sauces
Salted caramel sauce is made like regular caramel sauce: sugar is cooked to a deep amber, about 340 to 350°F (171 to 177°C), then butter and warm cream are whisked in carefully and flaky or fine sea salt is added to taste. Salted caramel became popular in France, especially in Brittany, known for its salted butter.
It is used as a sauce, a filling for chocolates and macarons, and a swirl in ice cream and brownies.
