Baking tools for this recipe

Instructions

  1. Warm the condensed milk in a nonstick pan over low heat for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring, just until loosened. Do not let it brown.
  2. Remove from the heat and stir in the citrus juice, then add the milk powder a third at a time, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Let the dough cool until you can handle it, about 10 minutes. Dust your hands with sugar if it sticks.
  4. Roll teaspoon-sized pieces into short logs about 2 inches (5 cm) long, then roll each in sugar.
  5. Let the logs dry on a tray for 20 minutes, then wrap each in a strip of paper with fringed ends.

Tips

  • Use fresh, free-flowing milk powder so there are no lumps.
  • Warm the condensed milk gently; high heat scorches it.
  • Add a pinch of salt for a more balanced sweetness.
  • Good with hot tea.
