Hand mixer
A small handheld electric mixer with two removable beaters, used for creaming, whipping and mixing batters in any bowl.

- Equipment, utensils and bakeware
Also called: electric mixer
A hand mixer is light, inexpensive and easy to store, and it works well for small batches, whipping cream, beating egg whites and mixing cake batters and cookie dough. Because it can be used anywhere, it is handy for frostings beaten over a pot of simmering water.
Move the beaters around the bowl to mix evenly, and keep them down in the mixture when starting so it doesn't spatter. Hand mixers are not strong enough for stiff bread doughs.
