Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, yeast, sugar, salt and poppy seeds. Add the warm liquid and knead 5 minutes to a smooth dough.
  2. Cover and rest in a warm place 1 hour until puffy.
  3. Heat the oven to 350 F (175 C) and line pans with parchment.
  4. Roll the dough about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) thick. Cut into finger-wide strips, then into pieces about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) square.
  5. Spread on pans and bake 15 to 20 minutes, until light golden at the edges. Turn off the oven and leave in 15 minutes to dry out.
  6. For the poppy milk, grind the poppy seeds in a spice grinder, cover with boiling water, and stir in the almonds and sugar. Let stand 20 minutes, then stir in the cold milk.
  7. Pour over the biscuits in bowls and let them soak about 5 minutes.

Tips

  • Grind poppy seeds fine for a creamy milk.
  • Do not soak longer than 5 to 10 minutes or the biscuits go soft.
  • Use water instead of milk for a vegan, traditional Kucios version.
  • Good with cranberry drink.
