Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, sugar, and fine sea salt. Warm over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Remove the saucepan from heat. Whisk in the instant espresso powder until fully dissolved, then stir in the pure vanilla extract.
- Pour the mixture into a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Chill thoroughly in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or until very cold.
- Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to manufacturer’s instructions, about 25 to 30 minutes.
- During the last five minutes of churning, gradually add the caramel sauce to swirl it evenly throughout the ice cream.
- Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 1 hour to firm up before serving.
Tips
- For a stronger coffee flavor, increase the espresso powder by 1 tbsp or use freshly brewed espresso cooled down instead.
- Use high-quality caramel sauce or make your own to ensure a rich, buttery swirl that complements the coffee and vanilla.
