Tea Steeping Guide
What temperature for green tea? About 160 to 180°F, below boiling.
Pick your tea and how much water to get the grams of leaf, the water temperature and the steep time.
How to use it
- Choose the tea.
- Enter the water and strength.
- Steep for the shorter time, taste, then go longer if you like.
How it works
About 2 g of leaf per 8 fl oz (240 mL) is a common starting point.
Green and white teas use cooler water; black, herbal and rooibos use boiling water.
These are common brewing guidelines, not an official standard; your tea's own directions win.
Assumptions and limits
- Loose-leaf tea.
- Fresh water.
- Cups in fluid ounces.
