Sprinkles
Tiny colored candy decorations scattered over frosting, cookies, doughnuts and ice cream.

- Decorating, finishing and presentation
Also called: jimmies, nonpareils, hundreds and thousands
Sprinkles come in many shapes: jimmies are short rods, nonpareils are tiny balls, quins are flat shapes such as stars and hearts, and sanding sugar is coarse colored sugar that sparkles. They stick best to frosting or glaze that is still wet.
Mixed into batters, some sprinkles bleed their color; jimmies usually hold up better than nonpareils, which is why they are used in funfetti-style cakes.
