Decorating with Sprinkles, Drizzles and Fruit
Make bakes look amazing with sprinkles that stick, icing drizzles and fresh fruit, all on treats that have cooled.
Decorating is where you get to be an artist. Sprinkles, a drizzle of icing and fresh fruit can turn a plain cookie or cupcake into something special.
You will learn
- How to make sprinkles stick
- How to drizzle icing
- How to top bakes with fruit
What you need
- Cooled cookies or cupcakes
- Icing or frosting
- Sprinkles
- Washed and dried berries
- A spoon
- A tray
- Your grown-up
Steps
- Decorate cool treatsWash your hands first, and check every ingredient with your grown-up for allergies. Only decorate treats that have cooled all the way, or the icing will slide and melt. Work on a tray to catch stray sprinkles.
- Sprinkle while it is wetIcing is a sweet topping that can be thick or runny. Frosting is a thicker, creamier topping. Sprinkles stick while icing or frosting is still wet, so top one treat and sprinkle it right away. Let them rain down from a little way above.
- Make a drizzleA drizzle is a thin zigzag line of icing. Drizzling icing should be runny, like thick paint, so stir in a few drops of milk if it is too stiff. Wave a spoonful back and forth over the treat.
- Top with fruitPat berries dry so they do not make the icing runny, then press them gently into the frosting. Any slicing, like halving strawberries, is a sharp knife job for your grown-up. Treats topped with fresh fruit go in the fridge if they are not eaten the same day.
- Check before you shareSome toppings contain allergens, which are ingredients some people cannot eat. Check every ingredient with your grown-up, including the sprinkle label.
Grown-up help
- sharp knife
