  1. Combine the sugar, water, and the split vanilla bean with its scraped seeds in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar completely dissolves and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes to infuse the vanilla flavor, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup steep with the vanilla bean for 5 minutes.
  5. Discard the vanilla bean pod and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
