Instructions
- Heat the oven to 400°F.
- Rub the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter together into coarse crumbs.
- Stir the baking soda into the boiling water, then whisk in the molasses, egg, and salt.
- Pour the molasses mixture into the crust and scatter the crumbs evenly over the top.
- Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce the oven to 350°F and bake until set with a slight jiggle, 30 to 35 minutes more.
- Cool completely on a rack, at least 2 hours.
